Course Title : Pharmaceutical Packaging

Packaging is the science, art and technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use. Packaging also refers to the process of design, evaluation, and production of packages. Pharmaceutical packaging can be defined as the economical means of providing presentation, protection, identification, information, convenience, compliance, integrity and stability of the product.Pharmaceutical packaging encompasses the materials and processes used to enclose and protect medications during storage, transport, and use. It’s crucial for maintaining product integrity, ensuring patient safety, and providing essential information. Packaging is broadly classified into primary, secondary, and tertiary, each serving a distinct purpose.

Duration: 30 Hours

Course Outcomes

After completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • Understand the fundamentals and importance of pharmaceutical packaging.
  • Identify various packaging materials, technologies, and equipment used in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Explain quality control, regulatory requirements, and recent advancements in pharmaceutical packaging.

Module 1: (8 hrs)

  • Status of Packaging Industry, India and International and Export Packaging
  • Principles, Functions, Concept and Modern Role of Packaging
  • Concept of Packaging Design and Sustainable Package Design
  • Concept and Advanced Processing of Glass Packaging
  • Concept and Advancement in Metal Packaging

Module 2: (7 hrs)

  • Concept and Advanced Processing of Paper and Paperboard Packaging
  • Concept and Automation in Corrugated Fibre Board Boxes Packaging
  • Wooden based Packaging, Pallet and Palletization
  • Ancillary and other Packaging Materials
  • Data Analysis of Packaging Industry

Module 3: (8 hrs)

  • Introduction to Plastic Processing and Packaging
  • Concept and Advanced Processing of Plastics and Polymer Packaging 
  • Advances in Flexible Packaging Material
  • Mould Design and its Application in Packaging 
  • Advances in Tooling & Design of Moulds for Packaging

Module 4: (7 hrs)

  • Basic Concept of Printing on Packaging
  • Advances in Printing on Packaging with special reference to the Digital
    Printing
  • Various Types of Packaging Machinery
  • Packaging Standards, Laws and Regulation
  • Role of BIS, FSSAI,
    MOFPI and NABL, IATA, ILAC, IMDG, ASTM, IMDG with reference to the Packaging.

Course Title : GPAT Forum

Expected Outcomes

After completion of the program, students will be able to:
  • Develop strong conceptual understanding of GPAT Pharmaceutical subjects
  • Improve MCQ solving skills and cognitive skills
  • Enhance competitive exam preparation techniques, exam strategies for Govt. Pharmacist Exam, other pharmacy entrance examinations
